How to Prepare for End-of-Lease Cleaning in Melbourne
Pure Spotless Cleaning · Melbourne residential cleaning
Preparing a Melbourne rental for end-of-lease cleaning is easier when removalists, cleaning and the final handover happen in the right order. The most useful preparation is simple: empty the property, keep water and power connected, arrange access and share the areas that need attention before the appointment.
This guide explains how to prepare for Pure Spotless Cleaning’s residential service. For the cleaning scope and a quote, see our end-of-lease cleaning service.
Planning your rental handover? Send your suburb, bedroom and bathroom count, condition photos and key-return deadline. We confirm the cleaning scope, available date and written price before booking.

End-of-lease cleaning checklist and handover planner
Put your moving dates, cleaning checks and quote questions in one place. Use the tick boxes as you review each area, then print or save a copy for your move.
No email or sign-up is needed. Entries in this planner are not submitted to us and may reset when the page is refreshed or closed. Use your browser’s Print menu to print or save as PDF before leaving.
1. Plan the moving and cleaning dates
Arrange the clean after the property is emptied. Keep time for carpet drying and your final check before the key-return deadline. Confirm access and appointment availability with each provider.
2. Room-by-room cleaning checklist
This checklist reflects the areas we discuss for residential end-of-lease cleaning. Tick items as you review them against your accepted quotation. A tick is your planning note; it does not certify the clean or add an item to a booking.
Curtains are excluded from our service. Permanent staining, pre-existing damage and maintenance issues may remain. Read the full end-of-lease cleaning inclusions and exclusions before booking.
3. Compare cleaning quotes on the same scope
Send each cleaner the same property details and photographs. Use the notes below to record what another quote includes, what costs extra and anything you still need confirmed.
Pure Spotless: Included in our standard end-of-lease scope.
Pure Spotless: Included in our standard scope; external windows are separate.
Pure Spotless: Spot cleaning included; full wall washing quoted separately.
Pure Spotless: Separate quote. From $49.50 per standard room, including GST; three-room minimum.
Pure Spotless: Identify heavy build-up, balconies, extra appliances, stairs, lifts and parking.
Pure Spotless: End-of-lease starting prices begin at $330 including GST. Confirm your property-specific total in writing.
Pure Spotless: Eligible quoted items only. Report within 7 calendar days; vacancy, evidence and access conditions apply.
Standard carpet rooms are approximately 10–15 square metres. Three standard rooms start at $148.50 including GST. Larger rooms, condition, stairs, access and upholstery need assessment. See the end-of-lease pricing guide and carpet cost example.
4. Keep your handover notes together
Victorian rental guidance: Consumer Affairs Victoria says a property should be left reasonably clean and in the same condition as at the start, allowing for fair wear and tear. Use your condition report as a reference and read its current cleaning responsibilities guidance. This is a practical planning tool, not a statutory condition report or an assurance that every listed item is required for your tenancy.

1. Arrange cleaning after the removalists
Book the clean after furniture, boxes and unwanted belongings have been removed wherever possible. Empty rooms give the team access to floors, skirting boards and cupboards. Moving furniture through a freshly cleaned property can bring dirt back inside and leave marks.
Leave time between the clean and the handover to check the completed work. If carpets are being cleaned, allow drying time before anyone needs to move through the rooms.
2. Empty cupboards, wardrobes and drawers
Remove food, toiletries, clothes and loose items from the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry and bedrooms. Check overhead cupboards, shelves and the backs of drawers. The team can clean agreed internal storage areas properly when these are empty and accessible.
Take rubbish away before the booking unless removal has been separately arranged. Cleaning and rubbish removal have different scopes, so send photos of anything you want removed when requesting your quote.
3. Keep water and electricity connected
Arrange for water and power to remain available for the appointment. Tell us about any disconnected services before the day so we can assess whether the work can proceed. Also flag access restrictions, lift bookings, parking requirements and the way keys will be handed over.
For an apartment, check the building’s rules for tradespeople and service lifts. A confirmed access window helps avoid losing cleaning time while waiting for keys or entry.
4. Share the condition and requested extras
Send clear photos of the kitchen, bathrooms, floors and any areas with heavy build-up or damage. Mention any agent checklist you want considered. A written scope makes it easier to confirm what is included and what needs a separate price.
- Walls: wall spot cleaning is included in our agreed end-of-lease scope; a full wall wash is extra.
- Windows: internal windows, frames and tracks are included; external windows require separate assessment and pricing.
- Blinds: dusting is different from detailed wet wiping. Ask about the required method when booking.
- Carpets: arrange carpet steam cleaning specifically if you want it included.
Tell us about delicate finishes, existing damage and surfaces that need special care. Permanent marks and pre-existing damage cannot always be removed by cleaning.
5. Plan carpet cleaning and drying time
Our carpet steam cleaning service uses hot water extraction with portable equipment. Allow approximately 6–8 hours for drying, with the actual time depending on the carpet and conditions. Discuss your handover timing when booking rather than assuming carpets will be ready immediately.
Remove small belongings from the floor before the appointment. Tell us about stains and previous treatments so expectations can be discussed; permanent staining is not guaranteed to come out.
6. Check the agreed scope before handing over keys
Keep the quote and inclusions handy when inspecting the finished property. Check the rooms and items covered by the booking, and raise any concerns promptly. If your agent later identifies an issue, share the written report and clear photos.
Our Bond Back Guarantee provides a re-clean of eligible quoted items under our terms; it is not a money-back promise or a guarantee of the agent’s bond decision. Notify us in writing within 7 calendar days of completion, and keep the property vacant and unaffected. We aim to arrange an eligible re-clean within 3 business days after evidence and access are arranged. Read our terms and conditions for the full requirements.

Questions about cleaning day and key handover
How long does end-of-lease cleaning take?
There is no single duration for every property. Bedrooms and bathrooms, the condition of the kitchen and wet areas, access and agreed extras all affect the time required. Send current photos and your key-return deadline when requesting a quote so we can assess the work and discuss timing. Carpet drying is separate: allow around 6–8 hours as a guide, with actual drying affected by the carpet and conditions.
Can I request same-day or next-day end-of-lease cleaning?
Yes, you can ask about an urgent appointment, but availability must be confirmed before you rely on it. Include your address, property size, condition photos, requested extras and the latest time keys must be returned. Water, electricity and access need to be ready for the agreed booking.
What should I send if my property manager has a checklist?
Send the checklist with the property photos before accepting the quote. We can compare the requested items with our scope and identify any separately priced work. An agent checklist does not automatically add work to the booking; the written quotation confirms the agreed items.
